yes, it can do anything yuo ever wanted and more...
including...
make pretty webpages.
send emails,
make network socket connetion.
make network scripts.
make network scanners.
write directly to hardware such as the serial port
write to files and folders.
call system commands from scripts.
draw pictures.
manipulate pictures.
do sums and other calculations,
read and write to databases (prcatically any databases).
and even make rgaphical aplications, (using php-gtk).
for the most part, (when doing simple things) it's easy.
it's provided on practically all web hosts.
it's free open source and non proprietory.
it's avialble on any platform.
reasons not to learn it include,
it can get difficult if you're doing a lot of difficult stuff
