Need a Portal (like MSN Maybe)

I have a client who would like a portal area, like the MSN Groups section, completely unavailable to the public on his ASP site.

I am looking for an inexpensive version (free would be nice) with the ability to upload files and have a very basic thread bsed system. Nothing fancy, but as I said it has to be completely password protected so the general public cannot see the information in there.

Security within would be goot too so that he can have multiple areas within for different customers and their documens could be separate too.
