We all know the importance of a good position & page rank with Google--
Google's page rank algorithm is just one factor in choosing what sites appear on a specific search & it is the main way that Google determines the "importance" of a website. Here are a couple of good articles about how this is changing...

I have seen a number of theories but the one that seems logical to me is this:

Google reduce the ranking of large sites, take Dell for example knowing that as their traffic falls and their sales, they will instantly take up the adwords program (Cost per click where google get their money.) to get the visitors back. I say this because it only seems to be big sites that have been penalized and if it were a mistake, there would be some announcement.

yup

all we had to do was mention their name & here it came LOL maybe help improve your ranking LOL and I just got booted off line too

I think the changes at Google have a lot to do with webmasters using non-topic related recip links to improve their ranking. But why not do that cause it does improve ranking the way it is set up now. And after all it is these links that make the net a web but the web is a more effiecient place when linking topic related content only and that is what google wants & will now be looking harder for...
