WindowsXP chkdsk deleted needed files

ok my gf hit her power button a few times yesterday ( even held it down once) as she thought her monitor was broken but it was jsut the connection lol

anyways when i looked at it today i fixed the connection and on bootup chkdsk erased a lot of much needed files

everything looks fine till u try to run internet explorer or even system restore.
with system restore i get :

rstrui.exe- Unavable to locate component application has failed to start because msls31.dll was not found

also if we run diskcleanup it shows 7.8 kb old chkdsk files, i have no idea how to get them back


I have my OEMPlus recovery CD , not sure if this will help

please help

Generally, Chkdsk does not delete needed files. I would check into a possible virus related issue for what you are experiencing.
