Default Ubuntu help

I have an AMD Athlon 64 Bit CPU and 4 GB of RAM

Now I am running Win xp pro. and it is a 32 Bit verson so it only will see 3 GB of RAM.

I was going to get Win 7. so it will see the full 4 GB of RAM and I could use everything to the max and so on.

But I see and here a lot about Ubuntu 64 Bit and it is free.

But I have a Canon Printer and Scanner and both of there softwere is for Win xp.

Can Ubunto use them or use the softwere that I have for them?????????

And the other thing is that I have Movie Studio 8.0 by Sony will it work with Ubuntu it is for win xp???

Yes, Ubuntu can use your scanner and printer.

To scan an image go to Applications > Graphics > XSane Image Scanner

To print something, just open openoffice (ubuntu comes with it) , click CTRL + P and it will find your printer, then select it and print.

That should all work like a charm.

EDIT - And about the movie software, it could possibly work under wine. www.winehq.org for more information about wine.

Intel i7 4770k 3.50ghz, 32gb Corsair Vengeance RAM (8x4 kit), 2 x 2TB WD Black HHD, nVidia 770GTX 4gb OC, Asus Z87-A Motherboard, running Windows 7 64 bit.

Have a look here for details of a slightly different version running under wine - looks like you might be ok, but I wouldn't rely on it working!

It's possible your printer may not work straight out of the box as described in Ubuntu and you may have to do a bit of fiddling to get it working. It shouldn't be anything too horrible to set up however
