Sound Device not working!????

Hi, just re-installed Windows XP on my laptop and during the installation I got the "driver.cab" error and skipped it. My only real problem now is that I cannot get my audio to work at all. I tried the "update hardware" but nothing is working and the Device Manager is telling me the devices are working properly. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this working? The laptop is a Compaq Presario w/ the Legacy Audio. Thank You.

Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website and install them (as opposed to running "update hardware" and relying on Microsoft to keep everything up to date). You should have much better luck that way...

when ever i do a clean install of xp on any computer my ethernet goes out, sound, and 1 or 2 usb ports. I just get the newest drivers for all and everything works like a charm
