why doesnt my sony vaio vgc-v617g play 1080p youtube videos? It just lags a lot, it works on 720p... Does it not support 1080p?

It would support 1080p but the processor/video card combination may not be powerful enough to support the added work load

Generally for 1080p you want a dual core processor (and this one is a single hyperthreaded core, albeit a good one at 3.2GHz). The graphics processor is also a little weak for 1080p (Nvidia GeForce G05700 128MB). It'll probably play, but be noticeably laggy.

As far as I know that it's resolution is somewhere around 1280x768, so you should probably just play 720p youtube videos on that. Going up to 1080 won't help on that screen.

The system has an option to plug it into a larger display (e.g. LCD TV), but it almost defeats the purpose of the all in one PC. Keep your eyes out the next few months for very cheap devices that will start popping up with the ability to play 1080p content. There are a number of projects out there (like Raspberry Pi) that use high definition video GPUs on their boards. At the prices they're talking about some of these devices could become really wide spread quickly.
