at the log in screen it is missing - but it shows in doc & settings - also if I try to add the "missing " account name- it says it is already there??

I was playing around with this in the RUN --[control userpasswords2]
might have done something in it by accident...

system restore didn't bring it back either..

can you help me get this account name back on the log on screen??

Re: missing a logon profile name- WIN XP HOME SP2

Well i finally found the info on Microsoft's website- had to search around for awhile.

at the log on page hit CTRL/ALT/DEL twice - wait a bit system might be slow-

and a screen will pop up where you can type in the missing profile name and the password-
this gets you access to the account
this account should then show in the My computer/ properties/adv/user profiles/setting area

and there is a link to the control panel section to set up a new user profile {if admin}
OR-
If you have another admin/user profile & able to log on with it-

make a new account {set as admin/user}
log off of the "old" admin acct
log on to the new account - but don't make any changes
then log off of it

now log back on to the "old" admin /user acct
go to My Computer right click
go to properties
go to advanced
go to User profiles and click settings
then locate the old "broke" username click on it and then click "copy to" and locate the new username in the settings and documents area of the [usually] C drive and click for that copying to happen.

what it does is copy all the settings and files over to the new account name.

then you log off and log on the new account to make sure it is as it should be.
then you can go delete the messed up account if you wan to and after all that is done you can change the name back to the original Name/account that was messed up.

or you can search Microsoft if my exp isn't working for ya.
