Help with USB instrument cable

I've got this Instrument to USB cable, and finally want to put it to good use.
It's not the exact model, but it's very similar to this:

So, this cord works fine. It's picked up by my computer, and I can record with anything that has the applicable jack. I recently discovered Audacity, and it's really exciting for me.

My only problem with this thing is: I can't get playback on my speakers when it's plugged in. For example, I've got this Casio keyboard that has the right jack for this cord. Whenever something is plugged to this jack, however, the playback is meant to come out of the other end (i.e. an amp).

So, whenever my keyboard is plugged in to my computer, I have no playback whatsoever. Is there any way I can get my computer to work as an amp, so that I can hear my keyboard through my speakers?

(I've toggled with all of the audio device volume levels, all to no avail.)

Check to make sure that the keyboard plugged into the USB jack isn't being identified as the default playback device in the sound properties.

It's not; it's being identified as a microphone, or a "C-Media USB Audio Device"
Also, whenever I strike a key, the volume bar next to the mic icon jumps. It's picking up the output, I just can't hear it.

Not sure if this method works. This could be a crap shot, but can you split that 1/4 jack so both the computer and the speakers receive the same signal?

Thanks, but I've got something now.
Using Audacity, I made so that the instrument plays through my computer as I'm recording. The only problem now is that there's a noticable lag between when I play a note and when it plays through my computer.
That's probably because Audacity can't read and replay the audio at the same time. That's what you get for free software, right? :)

Thanks for everyone's input!

Glad you got it working.
