Erasing SATA Drive

Hi I have a question what is the best software to use to totally erase an SATA drive? I tried using a fairly large 1TB drive in a Samsung laptop and it wouldn't take it. I found out my Dell Inspiron can take a drive that large and it has a smaller hdd so I am going to swap the drives after I get done with a project. I want to wipe the drive though first. Thank you!

I can recommend a software called Darik's Boot and Nuke. It's great. Removed everything.
Even MBR and file system

I sent a thank you message but also wanted to say thank you publicly thank you for the information BikerEcho. I have used DBan in the past but wasn't able to erase SATA hard drives just Ide drives so I thought I couldn't use Dban but now I see it has been updated.
