Creating an operating system

I have always wondered if it was possible to create an operating system that will run windows software and games designed for windows?

In other words, create a completly new operating system, but one that will install, run and play software designed for windows? Or does Microsft have some kind of copyright on the use of there structure?

Just wondering... I think it would be cool to create an OS that could run windows software, lol.

For example, there are Windows emulators for Linux such as WINE and Cegeda that can run Window programs on a Linux operating system

It would take you months, it isnt as easy as making a basic car.Now thats hard/

You could make a linux distro that has intergraded WINE.
