I have a network of two laptops with win7 (home and ultimate) and two desktops one with windows server 2008 and the other with Linux. the problem that I'm having is that the laptop computers can see win server 2008 computer in network but cannot access (hand shake) with windows server files or desktop.I'am new to win server i been reading from ebook Can some one please help me.

How is the server set up? What are the roles?
the Domain name is setup and you can see the domain name in server manager, LAN Connesction with IPV4 assigned by DHCP, IPV6 Enabled, remote desktop disabled. 5 of 17 roles installed: Active Directory Certificate services, Active directory domain services, DNS Server, File services, Web server (IIS).
What I would like to know if files can be accessed from the server by using the internet and accessed without using the internet? If so that is what i like to do .

If you want to do it over the internet, the easiest, and most secure way is to setup FTP.
