Acer 5920g woes

My wife has an Acer 5920g running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.

It has recently started to run slowly so today I backed up everything that I felt was important. I then deleted all the spurious programs that appear from time to time and any other that I no longer needed. I then I did a system restore.

At first it appeared to be running OK but when I did a restart it got only as far as the initial splash screen showing Acer - with the bottom of the screen telling me to press <F2> to enter setup and <F12> to enter Multiboot Selection Menu.

It locks at this stage and does not respond to and keyboard input nor will it boot from the CD.

Any ideas as to how I can progress from this deadlocked position?

A new development. We have connected to this laptop a 4 port usb 2.0 hub. When I removed the hub the laptop booted up normally.

So it's not a serious hardware failure!

What is the problem?

Problem with what? you fixed the performance issue, didn't you?

The reason it didn't boot was properly because it wanted to boot from a USB device. YOu can fix that by changing the boot priority in the BIOS. Set the HDD or CD drive as first priority.
