Default Who wants all Topics that have past their useful value closed?

The above question: Who wants all Topics that have past their useful value closed?

And in what Forums?

Maybe there can be a forum where all the dead topics go to die.

I don't think so because sometimes topics are dragged up from the past and usefull comments can be made.

Auto pruners are a goo idea as they keep a forums database in trim spick and span etc... But you only really need to sea pruner if you are experiancing a massive database slow down.
although perhaps a threaded type view plain text page for old threads might be good. that way old useless threads can be trimmed whilst the opinions and/or advice can be preserved.

I think all topics should be left open. The world of computing never stands still and there is always something on the way that can change a situation. For example, if users are discussing a security hole and a patch is released later, it would be good to put a note in the old topic.

Lol - well I think I do it as well as is physically possible. Do you not realise the number of posts on this Forum in one day? I probably look at about 80% of them!

I agree with CoMpUtaFrEek,
I do think that only the spamming & flaming threads are dead weight on this forum.

All others i would leave ...

Thumbs down PC or not PC

For example "cant open doc" etc. This is not a problem for the avg.home users.
Transfers of workers homework needs a seperate section if any.
Aren't they trained first ?

At least start with more info instead of ending with it.
Of course we didn't help , as we where'nt given enough details.
So whoever it is need 10 lashes with a wet noodle.
Amen.

Lmfao.

I may create a "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING A PROBLEM" thread, telling users to post: Specific error they recieve, listing system information, etc.

Alot of time is wasted because people say:

"oive got dis ting wit da fing stoppin it forom doin art, it append wen i dl porn!!!!!!!"

Not quite but, you get my drift.

That was my fear. Would be hard to get people to notice it/read it.

I tried that...
I called it Trade secrets,
I said tht it'd be a good place to post titbits of information that might be usefull to someone, a sort of FAQ, Lord K stickied it.
Everyone ignored it, (except to have conversations about drink). then it was ignored a further time when someone wrote an FAQ post on how to re-install windows which subsequently got sticked. -soon there will be more sticked FAQ start here threads than there will be people starting new threads to ask questions.
I think the best thing that could be done would be for a mod or an admin to start a thread called something like start here, FAQ, or something simillar sticky it and lock it, that way anyone wanting to post in the thread will have to go through a mod meaning that it wouldn't decend into general chit chat.
Mods could also copy/move usefull posts from other threads into this sticky.
