MSN could easily be the best on many of its features alone and single handed. Best of those being the Graphical User Interface; undoubtedly the best GUI of any Instant Messenger Available on the Market I think you'll agree.

Then the scope - everybody has a Hotmail Address, anybody can get a Passport and there are no advertisements in the Screen, sent to you by E-mail by Hotmail or MSN, and no payment for the service.
