Napoleon was stupid by going into Russia without realizing his supply lines would fall apart.. but hey many leaders have made that mistake.

Napoleon was a brilliant commander, but yes, Russia was his fatal mistake. But battle of Borodino... one of the biggest battles in all history........

But you have to realize the Russian commanders were quite smart.. they managed to lure Napoleon into Moscow, and that's where he realized that he was trapped.

Russian commanders weren't smart but weren't stupid.. same thing goes for WWII. They just used to scorched earth tactics... their own military planning sucked. But they did know how to use the environment for their own gain.
