Gold Standard?

Just curious what your guy's opinions on it were. I was discussing it a little on another forum that is mainly conservative. Personally I am against it, some people are for it though, how about you guys?

The gold standard is impractical today. There is not enough gold to back the amount of currency floating out there, and it would not solve our current economic woes.

A lot of people say that the gold standard is the reason for the great depression though. China at the time had a silver standard, and they somewhat avoided the Great Depression.

The gold standard wasn't the reason for the Great Depression, but adherence to it was one reason why the US stayed in as deep as it did.

Maybe we shouldn't set our standards so high that failure is inevitable. How about an Aluminium standard?
