I don't really know how the process goes, but I'm just wondering

I dunno. Some forums have a mod voting elections...wonder if here it was the same...

If you're saying at other forums members get to nominate and vote for mods that's not how we do it here. A name get tossed around by the mods and admin then the admin has the final say. And I must say this system works rather well.
A mod nominee has a good working knowledge. Has been no trouble. Maintains a even temper(well most of the time). And doesn't play favorites with other members. A certain aloofness helps.
