dont know if you know this but 45nm is how far apart the transistors are inside of the chip, the cpu itself takes up about 50%-65% of the die.

but the smaller you make the distance and the transistors the faster and cooler you can send information 4ghz would become a stock voltage where 5 or even 6ghz would become a very good over clock depending on the setup

also the main reason new cpu's are cooler is because they are making them use less power, less power=less heat

ya plus better for the environment and longer battery life for laptops
imagine when they eventually got 32nm
i think amds making a big mistake by not dropping down to 45nm there going to have a huge problem keeping up with the speed
video cards should also be at lest 65,90 just runs to hot
