Unhappy wireless range help

Okay well I am currently sharing internet with a friend/neighbor with my Linksys WMP54G wireless card. I get a really bad connection, about 1bar and 5.5mbps. I went out and bought D-Link antenna and did not do much, other than raising it up to about 11mbps and 2bars. But I am still loosing connection 10 or 11 times a day. Is there anything I can do to make the connection stronger? BTW I'm about to buy a D-Link wireless card(need to give my friend his card back), do you think this will help at all?

Custom) Core2Quad 2.4GHz, 2GB DDR2800 RAM, Dual 256MB GeForce 8600 in SLI, 320GB SATA HDD

Try changing channels in the router settings, you might be getting interference from something
