Lagging router?

My housemmates used to have a fast connection to the internet on his computer. But then we got a router, and now four people use the internet with one router. I've noticed the internet connection is lagging and is pretty slow. Does this have anything to do with the fact that four people are using one router? How do I speed things up and return the connection to its usual speed?

First i would like to know what the spees are that you are getting. Do a speedtest w/o and with the router and post those here.

Also, what brand and model router is it that will help too.

depends what the people are doing on the internet.
having more people will naturally slow it down, but if they are only browsing the net it shouldnt be noticeable
