won't recognize USB drive

Hallo again:

Since I just can't get my old slave HDD to work on my new VISTA system (as a slave again) I got a USB drive enclosure. The system doesn't recognize the drive at all.

It does show up in DEVICE MANAGER in DISK DRIVES, sometimes as disk drive sometimes with the complete model designation. It also shows up as USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE. It doesn't show up in COMPUTER or in DISK MANAGEMENT.

When I try to reboot with the slave on, the same thing happens .... VISTA doesn't boot completely ... just like when I have the drive installed internally. VISTA won't even shut down with the drive on. It just hangs up at the " SHUTTING DOWN" screen. It only shuts down when I turn the drive enclosure power off.

Help please .......
