windows system restore

does windows system restore only restore the registry, or does it work like a disk imaging program and restores deleted files and uninstalled software? for example....if i delete some photos, and uninstall a program, and then used system restore to go back to yesterday, would it restore the photos and the program i uninstalled?

I have no clue but I know it restores everything from behind a certain date, but I don't know if it restores files or not.

I don't believe it does. It more sets your computer back to the way it was running, it won't install programs or bring back files.
