Note: This is on Windows Vista

In My computer, my DVD-RW drive is missing.

I go into Device MAnager, and it shows a yellow exclamation mark.

I open the properties for the drive and it says:
"Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)"
under neath it says "check for solutions", and i click the button, and of course, like any integrated Windows support function for errors, its useless.

i got to the driver tab and i hit "Update DRiver" and it says
"windows has determined that the driver software for your device is up to date"

i went into MSconfig, restarted any services i disabled, and i uninstalled all my ISO programs, and i never had Nero or Roxio installed ever..

so whats up? why is it being stupid?

this is the first time this has happened. the past 6 months vista's been running perfect. (in device managing and such, i mean)

Try un-installing it then re-starting your computer, if that doesn't work, then it seems as though the windows default driver is corrupted, and you might have to do a hard-driver update.
Go to Device manager, right click on the drive, then go to properties.
Click on the update driver button, and insert the CD that came with the drive (If none, go to the manufacturers website and download a driver.)
Then, change the directory to there, and hope it works.
Hope it comes out best for you.

PROBLEM SOLVED
