Will my laptop be alright if I don't install anymore windows updates?

My laptop crashed because of a windows update and I had to reinstall windows. I looked up the reason why it happened and it was because the windows update installed a atipcie driver that my laptop couldn't handle. So to avoid this happening again would my laptop be ok if I didn't install anymore windows updates?

Set your updates to "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them." That way you can select which ones you want to install.

A lot of updates are patches that fix security issues, and I would suggest that you do continue installing those if you want to keep you computer secure.

Was the update that crashed you laptop a critical or suggested optional update?

i never use my windows update.
Unless its to like find a driver that i cant find or get things like the .net Framework thing.

I have Windows XP Pro with SP 2 installed...

... and haven't updated it at all. Although there are one or two fixes I had to install for applications.

And had no issues with my machine.

If your running SP2 then don't bother.
