What to buy in a laptop?

I am looking to purchase a laptop as a second computer. I just want one that I will be able to use in other parts of my home with the wireless option. I will only be using it for games(not high tech ones),internet,mail and just regular computer programs. I don't want to spend too much, $1000 or less, more if I have too. I would be buying this in Canada.
