Vob Converter Help

I'm pretty dence when it comes to this so bare with me. I need to to convert either the vob files to avi or mpg or any of those types of files or extract the dvd it's self. Is there any free downloadables for windows out there that are full non trial versions. Also my comp came with a k lite codec pack, can that help me in any way, i dont really know what any of the files do.
