Video Card ?'s

I think the new X2900 were gonna have that but there DDr3, I dotn know which video card has DDR4

right so i look at the core clock speed.
the RAM speed
if im using high res then amount of RAM
and the type of core

Right, but the type of core should come first. Don't think that the 8600GTS outperforms the 8800GTX just because of the higher clocks, because the G80 core (8800) is far superior to the G84 (8600).

As for GDDR4, I think they used it in some if not all the X1950XTXs, but the current-gen GDDR3 cards are still ahead, so it's not worth it.

So if I'm playing on a regular 1024x768 then I won't exactly need 512MB, what if I'm playing on a 1440x900 monitor do you think I would need 512MB?

Probably not, but depends on the game. You'd be better off getting a faster card with less memory.

I was thinking about the 8800GTS over the 8600GTS, it has more memory but the 8600 has better clock speeds. Its a lil over $100 more but I think it would be worth it.

8800GTS is way better. You forgot to look at the core. The 8600 uses the G84 core, while the 8800 uses the G80 core. The G80 is much better even though it has a lower clock speed.

Think of the 8800 as a Core 2 Duo, and the 8600 as a Pentium 4. A 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo would blow away a 3.4 GHz Pentium 4. Same with the 8800 vs. the 8600.

So its definately worth the extra 100 bucks?

Like I said earlier, look at the core before considering faster clock speeds. In this case, the clocks are irrelevant because the 8600GTS and the 8800GTS use different cores. The 8800GTS is all-around faster and has more memory, so you're not sacrificing one for the other.

And 256/320MB should be all you need for either of those resolutions for DX9, but when you turn on AA or AF, your headroom may be getting smaller. DX10 games are supposed to use up more memory compared to DX9 games from what I've heard.

edit: Ah, beat me to it, freestyler. :p Nice analogy.

right should some1 make a sticky vide card thread with like cores in order of quality and stuff like that ?
