using my old mobo.

i am going to build a spare p.c out of a few old bits i have, or will buy from ebay.
now this might sound like a stupid question, but here goes.
my old mobo was for a p4 socket 478 cpu. will i have to use a p4 cpu or can i get a p2/p3 to suit it?

P4... 478 pin was for P4s only.

This P4 is not bad, it has 1MB L2 Cache, which helps it be faster, but No HT tech on it, still not too terrible for $174.. It has 533MHz FSB so make sure your MOBO can support it.

yes i got a p4 mobo but it will be cheaper to buy a used mobo cpu combo from ebay than to buy a p4 cpu.

Or just buy a cheap 478pin CPU off ebay, and install it, even cheaper that way.

Intel P4 1.8 CPU £35.00 with 2hrs to go, will probably make £40/50 ($70/80)
i can get a p3 with mobo for about £15.00.

Get the P4, it is more powerful. It may cost a bit more, but it will be worth it. The extra PC will perform better then a P3 based.
