Two OS's: Need to delete one

I recently upgraded a computer from windows 98 to XP (via XP upgrade disc, not oem). Somehow I ended making a new partition, and it installed the new os (XP) on that. So I have two OS's on one hard drive (98 and XP). How would I go about deleting the old OS, windows 98?

Or if anyone knows, how do I do a complete reformat of the hard drive? I could just wipe everything out and reinstall windows 98 then upgrade xp. Is there a way I could do this from DOS without any startup discs? Thanks.
