tv with dvi

alright, my dad has a tv with a port that is identical to this in the back:

and my computer has a standard vga output. so, if i get an adapter like this:

and plug it into the back of my tv, and then use a vga cable to connect my pc to the pc to the adapter, shouldnt i be able to use the tv as a monitor? or, would i need dvi output from my pc?

It should work. You might need DVI-D, though...depends.

ok, because i have already tried this, using the adapter i mentioned, and it didnt work. ok, so what needs to be dvi -d? the adapter, or the tv?
