Surround Software

hey all
yeh just need some help.
I have watched a few DVD's on my computer and noticed no matter how new etc the surround doesn't work. I mostly use windows media player, to play the movies. I thought there might be a dvd decoder for the surround but I have been notified that it doesn't. So it appears I need to download a decoder to have surround sound enabled on DVD's. Does anyone have a link for the download? Or if someone has found out a way to enable it?
