Is every motherboard with a PCI express 16x slot compatible with both Nvidia and ATI cards? It is something that has been bugging me for the longest time. like is this "ASUS P5Q Pro ATX LGA775 P45 DDR2 2PCI-E16 CrossFire 3PCI-E1 2PCI SATA2 Sound GBLAN eSATA Motherboard" compatible with Nvidia cards? I know it wont work with two Nvidia cards but will it support one nvidia or alternatively 2 ati cards right? Its just one of those things... lol

Yes. Any motherboard with a PCIe x16 slot is compatible with any PCIe video card whether it's made by ATI or Nvidia.

The Asus P5Q will run two ATI cards in Crossfire or a single Nvidia video card. It is not SLI compatible.

Yes. However, if you want either SLI or Crossfire, you'll need a dedicated motherboard for either configuration.

Single ones will work in any PCI Express motherboard. But, when you're running 2 together. It's a different story. Each motherboard is either SLI or Crossfire certified. As Atomic Rooster said, one will work no problem. But when running 2 cards together. It's one or the other.
