Strange noises

hi, this is kind of a weird problem, one that i have never come across before. When i start up my laptop and leave it to stand for a while it starts making crackling sounds and an image of the letter "C" appears in the toolbar, next to the start menu (not in the quicklaunch icons, just after them) Does anyone know what may be happening, and a ;possible fix?

any help would be greatly appreciated, a very weird problem if you ask me.

hmm, it does sound very weird. Maybe a virus or spyware. And u might want to check the startup registry for any programs that are not supposed to be there. Can u click the "C" or is it just there?

i ran a virus check, ill do a spyware and adware check now, and tell you how it gets on. you cant click the "C" and when you press ctrl+alt+del the "C" disappears and the noises stop.

i think we need moulder and scully on this one, he he

It sounds like some sort of spyware/adware. Your best bet is to run an anti-spyware program.

Also, you could try to disable it from starting up through MSCONFIG (start/run/msconfig) but you may have to do it in safe mode (hold F8 on startup)
