Hello.

I have a HP laptop running windows XP.

I have a problem with the sound devices. I tried installing windows media player last night and now when I open itunes or try to play any sound, it says there is no sound device installed. When I went in the control panel it also said there was no sound device. How do I get this back and working?

Thanks,
Jordan

Open Device Manager by going to Start > Run > Type devmgmt.msc

See what you've got under Sound Controllers. If there's a ? next to any of the devices, then you need new drivers for the device. What is the exact model of the laptop so I can get you a link to download the drivers?

My hp laptop is a dv9035r.

There are no question marks next to the devices in the manager.

Another thing I noticed since the install last night, is when I restart my system it says win32 host manager (or something like that) has encountered an error. Also, the taskbar and such should up as a classic style rather than the XP bubbly style title and taskbar.

Thanks,
Jordan

In Device Manager, is there anything listed under Sound, Video and Audio devices? If not, then Windows isn't recognizing your sound card and thats why it ain't working..
