My son's computer worked fine until an error message occurred a few days ago. It said that windows couldn't load due to a corrupt or missing system file. Sooo we tried the recovery disk. This seemed to be working until it said to insert disk 1 and restart. When we did this it doesn't seem to recognize the disk and there seems no where to go from here. We could reformat with XP but our only copy is the recovery disks. Any ideas.

Put the recovery disk in, get into bios and make sure your cd rom is in boot order 1st, then it should say press any key to boot, well press a key, then a blue screen comes up, press f3 for recovery mode, now a command prompt black screen appears, log into admin by press 1 then enter, now enter the pass or leave blank and then press enter, now type chkdsk /r then it should check, now when its done type chkdsk /p and press enter, i think it repairs.

If its your repair disk and you think its faulty, then google a windows recovry disk to download, once its downloaded make it a boot disk by downloading IMGBURN on google, download install, open the program, click open folder/file, open your recovery disk you downloaded, insert a blank disk and press burn, then follow the top again.

goodluck
