I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate that I got for my birthday. I had Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit on previously and did a complete re-format of the HDD and installed Windows 7. However, my old 5400 RPM 250 GB D:/ Drive isn't showing up. It's not really showing up in the BIOS before either. It had an Ubuntu install on it and it's just not showing up anymore. Is the drive dead or something? How could that have happened? It's not being detected anywhere in Windows 7 and the connections appear intact. Though, it was working perfectly fine before installing 7.

Any thoughts?

Does it appear when you run diskmgmt.msc from the run dialog box? If it is formatted in ext3 or ext4 Win7 or Vista won't be able to see the partition, but it should still show up when you run diskmgmt.msc

Is it SATA hard disk?

Try this method for fixing

In Disk Management under 'Storage' right click the drive - if you press properties you can confirm its the unreadable disk - then press 'import foreign disk" then ok.
