Hi guys,

First of all happy holidays everyone!

Okay, due to the hard drive failing on my laptop on Christmas eve (great timing!) I am now on the lookout for a replacement.

Its a Compaq Presario 2500 laptop and the drive that is in it is a Seagate 2.5 inch 4200rpm 40GB drive. My question is can I now put any 2.5 drive in there to replace it or do I have to find the exact replacement?? I checked one site that offered the same drive for the princely sum of £350!!! I can get a 2.5 drive from e-buyer for under £50 and thats a 5400rpm drive (or a 60GB version for just a bit more). Just want some advice before I place the order please.

Any help appreciated as I am now typing this on an ancient pc put together from old pcs over the years (currently viewing at 640 x 480 which is no fun")

Thanks
