Radeon 4870 x2, Swaping brands?

Not really... AFAIK, Crossfire is a system of linking two CARDS together - not two GPU's. "Quadfire" would be having four 4870 x2's linked together... It's like a motherboard - If a motherboard can support dual core processors, it doesn't mean it can support two actual processors.
The HD 4870 X2 is basically CF on a card, where the two RV770 GPUs are running in CF.

I understand where he is coming from. But, Crossfire and SLI is multiple GPU's, not cards. You can't Crossfire CARDS. Only the processing units on them. If there are 2 GPU's on the card. It's technically and by textbook definition, Crossfire.

Was that directed at me?

:)

The HD4870 X2 is CF already.

So 2 X HD4870 X2 is Quadfire.

4 GPU's not 2.

Putting 2 HD4870 X2 together would make a hot graphics computer.
