Question about 64 bit processors...

The 64bit processors which are out right now are pretty fast when running on 32 bit applications. My question is, in a few years when 64 bit applications start becoming mainstream, are today's 64 bit processors going to recieve a big performance boost from it?

also, im thinking of buying a laptop soon. if i buy one with say, a pentium 4 (thats the most common cpu i've seen being used in laptops lately), will i be stuck with a laptop in a few years that I can't run any new applications (games mostly =P) on since they'll most likely be programmed for 64 bit?

why do you say that? will there still be support for 32 bit processors after 64 bit goes mainstream?

once 64 bit stuff comes out the p4 will be obsolete.

THe P4 *IS* at the end of its cylce. They just released the last, or one of the very last P4.

To get a p4 now would be very unsmart.
