Q6600 temp irregularities.

running a Q6600 and got both core temp and speed fan. the versions are 0.96 and 4.33 respectively. speed fan is showing 37-42 on average and core temp is showing 50-57. what's going on?

speedfan is 15 degrees too low.

thank you. didn't want to do anything that would cook my CPU. does anyone know the max temp for a G0 Q6600?

Try downloading Everest Ultimate (free trial use) and see what temps are showing up on there. Speed fan is probally giving the correct temperature. Q6600 can get pretty hot without hurting it. I like to keep it under 60c IMO

using core temp i get 28-mid 30's shouldnt idle hotter then 42

coretemp gives a reading from the cpu thermal diode, speed fan gives a reading from the motherboard thermal sensor. it's hotter on the die than the motherboard.

Core Temp will be the more accurate reading.

I hope that is a loaded temp, if it is an idle temp you need to check your cooler is mounted correctly.

Thermal protection for a Q6600 should kick in around the 71°C mark

my appologies. the 50-57 is under extreme load. still havn't quiet managed to get it maxed out yet but that's at around 80% usage.

Run the Prime95 stress test, that'll max out your four cores, from memory I was hitting ~62°C at full load with the stock cooler.
