Greetings Everyone!

So i just found out the i7 runs for about 300 bucks now!
Opposed to the 1.2k price when i was building my computer a year ago.
So i'm looking to upgrade to my i5 to the i7

I've had the program "CPU-Z" on my computer for awhile now but i'm not to adept at reading it.

My processor is Intel Core i5 650
Which uses a 1156 LGA Socket.

Does anyone know the socket type on a i7, would i have to change my motherboard as well?

Other Questions
in dxdiag it says my processor has 4 CPU's, are CPU's cores?
CPU-Z says i have 2 cores.

Also my clock speed is 3.20GHz
but an i7 with a 2.80GHz Clock speed is far superior?
Is that because of the Cores or the Mb Cache?

Last Anyone know a good site for cheap computer parts?
Besides tiger direct cause that's where i currently browse.

it depends on which model. I know that the 2600k is on an AM3.

CPU-Z is counting the # of physical cores. each physical core on your i5 also has a virtual core, which is why dxdiag is saying 4.

as far as I know, the 2.8 Ghz clock speed isn't, but the mb cache on the i7 IS superior.

either newegg.com for parts or cyberpowerpc.com for whole builds.
my suggestion? ditch your motherboard and your i5 for a crossfireX motherboard and the AMD fx-8150, becuase it has ALOT more bang for the buck.

I'm not good at buying motherboards, alot of times if i buy a new one i end up with a whole new rig! So if i NEED to change my motherboard i would be grateful to receive help with that too.

My computer is a Dell Xps 8100,
Board: Dell Inc. 0G3HR7 A00
ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series [Display adapter]
3.20 gigahertz Intel Core i5 650

I think that all that's really import with motherboards?
Ram as well i believe cause of those little openings have different placements.
other than that doesn't PSU, HDD's and disk drives attatch to all motherboards?
