question about PCI-E 2.0 X16, and PCI-E 1.X X16.
I know they are backwards compatible, and vice versa
I have an PCI-E 2.0 card, and i was wondering whats the performance difference between putting the 2.0 card in an 2.0 slot and an 1.X Slot in gaming.
I noticed that a lot of people say that no card uses all X16 bandwidth.

in benchmarks you will notice a difference. however, in the real world i.e. gaming, you won't notice a difference. if you do, it'll be just a couple fps. now if you have 4870 X2 then yes, i would go pci 2.0. for a single card you're just fine.. :p

well i have an 8800GT, and i am in need of a new board.
should i get a board with PCI-E 2.0 or PCI-E 1.X for a board to keep from now till around december.

2.0, 1.1 and 1.0a all have 16 lanes.

There is no notable performance difference between them.

Don't make it a deciding factor in choosing a board.

hmm, then why does the new boards all advertise that they have 2.0 slot? is it like a marketing scheme for those that dont know?
