I'm upgrading a notebook's hard drive, that is completely swapping it. It's an old Sony VAIO... once the new hdd is in, how would I get its internal components, including media card reader, and a jogdial, to be recognized?

Just find the drivers off the sony website, and windows likely has drivers to make everything work.

Be carefull, swapping out hard drives can be more than you may bargin for in old sony vaios. If you have on that has a USB cd drive only, be aware without the restore disks, windows can not recognize this natively and no drivers that I could find were availible to make this possible (dos drivers for this do not exist). This means you'll have to find another way to get I386 on the drive (I booted to BartPE and used an external had to copy the files).

I have an internal CD drive... but it can't burn. Forget swapping out the hard drives... seems impossible in this instance.
