New DVD Burner isen't working

Bought a new burner, Pioneer 22x. Put the disc. that came with it in( Nero 8 ),nothing. Tried to download music, and play a video, nothing. Went to device manager, I do see the new driver, seems to be ok. Is there something else , that is preventing this from working?

Driver? For an optical drive? They're usually plug-in-and-play.

As above. Check and make sure the BIOS sees the drive and check the SATA connectors a plugged in properly.

Good! I read that it came with a CD (in the OP) and I was thinking, "crap! now those free dvd burners won't work!" but they will

How do I find out if the bios is there? I have XP.

Went to bios: Default( value not set) Identifier ( Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-118L ) Type ( CD ROM Peripheral ) I know I have power to it, because I can eject the tray.
