Hi, just a quick question: If the ethernet networking cable is damaged could that be a reason for my computer to not be able to detect the hardware?

Not detecting the network card? No that should be detected anyway.

Ok I think it might be a problem with the driver. is there any other place I can get the driver for my ethernet thingy?[/

Find the name and the Code for it and go to DriversGuide.com, sign up and search for it - they have practically all Drivers.
