Need help with thumb drive memory stick

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong spot, Sorry I'm new here.
Anyways, I have a 63gb memory stick and when I try to put some pictures on it, no problem. All pictures go on with no problem. But after I shut the sitck down so I can remove it, I plus it back in and the pictures are gone. Folder is there but its empty.

I do have some stuff on it and it stays on ok. Any ideas?

If you have everything backed up. I would recommend reformatting drive. You can usually right click on the drive in Computer and select the Format option.

I did format them but my pc wouldn't do it. A friend gave me a program that finally did it.

I put the first stick in and copied some files/pictures to it. Some folders were ok and other folders had the 10-15 duplicate pictures, same name and all. The folder in the pc only had single pictures as it should be. Any idea why there would be so many of the same pictures on the memory stick in the same folder.

Could something be wrong with the memory stick?

About how old is the thumb drive and how much do you use it?

If it is particularly old and used heavily, as well as being of poor quality, the drive could possibly have worn out as flash memory has a finite amount of write cycles.
