N00b here...gaming computer.

The DDR2 has such high latencys. It makes me cringe just reading the specs. I don't even know how that works when regular DDR can manage such low latencys. That Corsair one above is the only one I could find that has a lower latency than all the others and it's so expensive.

Thanks for posting guys...lol TRD...umm yea...lil bit crazy lol. Ummm i have a monitor, mouse, sub/speaker system, keyboard...i need a case and to fill honestly..if i could keep it under $1k, that would be sweet. I was lookin at:

AMD Athlon 3500+ Orleans (socket AM2)

or maybe

3500+ venice

**idk which mobo to get with these** I would like to be able to go SLi in the future.**

Hardrive 80gig at 7200 RPM

u should go with the am2. also, i think a 3200+ would be better. i hear it can overclock easily to speeds faster than the 3500. plus, u save lots of money.

and i say am2, because it is newer and will be more upgradable.

I suggest you get that motherboard I point out in the very first link. It's a nicely priced motherboard that uses AM2. It's great all around. Will work well with that AM2 CPU you pointed out. That hard drive is a great one too and will fit that motherboard perfectly. The 7600GT is a fine video card.

i agree with trd for teh most part. the motherboard is good. i recommend that one. its the cheapest sli board for am2. and the 7600gt is a very good card.

but i dont think u need a 750GB hdd. lol. just get a nice sata3.0 drive. it should do u well.

I thought about the 3200+, but idk how to overclock lol. Cheaper is better...so tell me how !!! lol jk...i need to read up more about it...gonna go with the 7600GT then...eventually SLi. Problem...u guys said ddr2 is bad for games due to latency...that board/cpu uses DDR2. Also...what do u guys have to say about acrylic cases(clear)...i used to think prolly crap boxes...but they look so good with the right lights/fan colors. Quality decent?

at the moment, socket939 ram(ddr1) is faster for amd processors because of the low latencies. but once amd uses socket am2 to fully utilize ddr2, it will be alright. so that is why you should stick with a cheaper processor for now, so that if u want to, u can upgrade to a high end processor without feeling too bad for wasting money on this current cpu.

anyway, ddr2 isnt "bad for gaming", its just not too good. its still good tho, but not the best

Yeah, right now isn't the best time to go for an AM2 system. You could always overclock your 3200+ to a 3500+. I believe there is a guide in the general computer hardware and software on how to overclock your cpu. Try going for a X2 4400+, or X2 4000+. Those are speed demons, which will utilize the dual cores to give excellent performance.
