Minor Upgrade?

ok guys there is no way i will ever get money to build a new computer...so what if i did this

my specs as of now:
pentium 4 /400mhz fsb/512kb-l2
intel d845hv mobo
768mb pc133 (3x256)
eVGA 5200 128mb (gets 20fps low graphics bf2 which actually is not that bad)

ok now i want to know if this would give me a little more of a chance at games like bf2....k i would be getting these things to lightly upgrade it

keep the cpu for a while
get this mobo: MSI microatx socket 468

total that would be: $250

so that would get a lot more fps because i got extremely fast ram and 1gb of it...also a 256mb video card that is actually semi-fast....and does msi make good mobo's...thx......also will my processor bottleneck wit the rest of the system...and i will most likely upgrade the processor later ne ways...so what do u think?? thx

well the ram would definitely help, the vid card is nothing great but will perform better than the one u have now. I had a fx5700 and could run bf2 fine with low settings.

What clock speed does that cpu have?

And yes, overall the performance would increase quite much, mostly because of the ram.

umm the speed of the procesoor is 1.8ghz...and 400mhz fsb....it will do for a lil while...what card would u suggest that is agp and wont bottleneck...maybe sometin like 6 k series?...i dont want a 7800 one because that cost way too much and will def. bottleneck...maybe a 6600??..or what would u suggest?

I doubt that processor is socket 478. You had better check it.

well how much can u spend? A 7600GT would be very good for the price, or then a 6600GT if u don't want to pay alot. But with the 6600GT u can probably go like medium - high in BF2, with the 7600GT u can definitely go with the high settings. Might be a little laggy with 1Gb of ddr400 ram though if u are running it at highest.

well i have to get a agp8x card man...soo thats y 7k series is out of the pic....also should i get a sound card??? just for a couple more fps...and this for a video card:

that would put it up to 300 dollars but make it much faster!

edit: btw it says 478pin package on teh box...so yes it is socket 478

You have the box to that old processor? I just want you to be sure that it is Socket 478 because it would be terrible if you ordered all of that stuff and it turned out that it wasn't. Are you sure it isn't Socket 370?

yes actually i do....if it says 478 pin package it means socket 478 right???...here ill even take a pic just to make sure because that would suck it if didnt work...k here it is

now it is blurry but it does say 478-Pin Package exactly like that...also ill reasearch my mobo to c what socket it was made for...thx

and yes it says micro atx just like mine...3 pc133 ram slot just like mine...and socket 478...and this pentium isnt really that old well maybe like 5 or more years but i think it came out right when pentium started to get faster and all...thx
