My friend has a Gateway (model # 835GM). One day, for no apparent reason, when I called him on Skype his computer restarted. After trying Skype many times, Window messenger Voice chat, and him just using Sound Recorder. I've narrowed it down to his computer crashing when it goes to use the mic. The sound card is built in, and sound out works fine. He's running Windows XP SP2, with all updates. I believe we tried the latest sound drivers... Any idea why this would work fine for months and then die (and please don't say hardware...he lives 1,200 miles away, that makes it hard to install a new sound card)?
